Claire Choo is a professor in social epidemiology and biostatistics in the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Universiti Malaya. Her research interests include the international public health burden of violence especially on children, women and older people; investigating the linkages between violence against children/adolescents/older people and mental health; the development and evaluation of interventions to address violence; research on the victimization of children using information and communication audio-visual technology and exposure to social media such as cyberbullying, sexual and physical victimization; and the application of the mixed methodology in public health research. Her current projects include determining the magnitude and social determinants of elder abuse (EAN) among the community and institutionalized older adults; examine effects of educational intervention on management of EAN among healthcare providers; review the effectiveness of interventions on EAN; estimating the magnitude of abuse among primary school children; exploring the awareness and communication practice of parents of primary school children on sexual abuse, determine the exposure to risk and victimisation using ICTs among adolescents and the association between domestic violence with psychiatric morbidity and victims’ readiness to leave.
