We all want to live a quality life in our old age but often forget the growing challenges faced by the older population. One of these is ageism, which appears in the form of stereotypes, prejudices and discrimination against older persons. Too often it remains overlooked, even invisible, yet it has many negative consequences on people's quality of life and experience of ageing.

The Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2021 therefore organised an international conference on the issue of ageism, with a special emphasis on the promotion of the rights of people of all ages. The conference sought solutions in intergenerational cooperation and lifelong perspective on ageing. Only by realising that a person ages from birth and not only in later stages of life will we overcome the narrow view of old age and make an important contribution to overcoming ageism.
