Launch: UN Decade of Healthy Ageing Progress Report 2023

Events

22 November 2023

DATE:
 22 November 2023
TIME: 13:30–14:30 CET, preceded by a networking lunch from 12:30–13:30

Background

The UN Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021–2030) is a global collaboration, aligned with the last ten years of the Sustainable Development Goals, that brings together governments, civil society, international agencies, professionals, academia, media, the private sector and older people themselves to improve the lives of older people, their families, and communities. With the declaration of the UN Decade by the UN General Assembly and the World Health Assembly in 2020, countries committed to ten years of concerted, catalytic, sustained and collaborative action to foster healthy ageing.

In declaring the UN Decade, Member States requested UN partners and WHO to report on progress to the UN General Assembly and the World Health Assembly in 2023, 2026, and 2029. For the 2023 reporting, WHO and UN partners have developed a complementary progress report for a wider audience. This event will mark the launch of this progress report, whose aim is to assess and celebrate the steps being taken by stakeholders around the world to implement the UN Decade, sharing experiences and lessons that can be built on over the coming years.

Audience

The report and its launch’s primary audience is policymakers, with a focus on national focal points on ageing and others in government departments involved in healthy ageing. The report and its launch will also be of interest to other stakeholders involved in the implementation of the UN Decade, including UN agencies, civil society, academia, private sector and older people.

Objectives

  1. To celebrate progress made in the first three years of the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing
  2. To share examples of contributions to the implementation of the UN Decade by a range of stakeholders
  3. To create a space to hear what older people, and other stakeholders, want to see for the next three years of the UN Decade
  4. To outline how every stakeholder can accelerate action during the next three years of the UN Decade to transform the world to be a better place to grow older
